Swollen eyelids, the sensation of something in your eye, and eye fatigue are all symptoms of evaporative dry eye.
Evaporative dry eye is the most common form of dry eye disease. It affects the quality of your tear film, usually caused by a blockage in the oil glands in your eyelids. This is known as meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
Oil is an essential component of your tear film because it prevents your tears from drying up too quickly. When there is a lack of oil, you can experience dry eye disease.

iLux is a proven treatment for patients experiencing the discomfort of evaporative dry eye. This hand-held device uses light and gentle compression to unclog the meibomian glands.
Your eyelids will be held between 2 soft pads while targeted-light heats the eyelids and helps melt the thick oils clogging the meibomian glands. After the warming, gentle compression is performed to help express and secrete the oils from the glands.
Once unclogged, healthy oil can be secreted from the meibomian glands and incorporated back into the tear film to ensure your tears aren’t evaporating too quickly.
This quick and easy treatment takes approximately 8–12 minutes for both eyes.
